Why do we love extremes in the characters of the books we read? Good vs. Evil? Angels vs. Demons? And when love is involved...? Oooo, what mouth watering prospects! Even more intriguing is why we love when extremely good characters rock out a little bad (like Lassiter in the BDB) and when bad characters harbor a heart of gold under that nasty exterior. Angels become demons and demons become angels, as it were. And readers LOVE it! Which might be why the protagonist of my debut novel, Rise of the Fallen, has become so popular. Micah Black is a deeply troubled vampire at the beginning of the book, hellbent on death and destruction. But he's only so raw and vapid because he is innately a good guy who wants nothing more than to be happy and live the life he was meant to. Personal tragedy led him to his fall from grace, and poor Micah can't recover. If Micah can just find that one thing - or person, as the case may be - who can give him hope again, he can rise from the depths of Hell, his inner angel resuscitated. If he can't, he won't survive.

In general, I prefer demons, but when it comes to cuddling Angels would be better because demons would get distracted. The one exception might be Jim from the Aisling Grey series by Katie MacAlister as he is in the form of a Newfoundland and could be a giant pillow ;)
