It's a shame that authors don't see the stains they give themselves by acting that way in "public." Even if it is on the internet. If you can't suck up the negativity, you'll never make it in this business. And that's coming from someone who has a tendency to cry and brood over negative feedback, lol. I think it's in our nature to get defensive when we receive criticism. It's also true that not everyone knows how to give it. Finding the right balance is probably the hardest part. Thanks for the post! Great tips on author/editor etiquette. It is wonderful when someone you don't know approaches you to tell you how much he or she loves your work. When your friends tell you that, you're never quite sure if they're saying just to be nice or if they really mean it, but when a stranger says it (or many strangers), that is what's called validation. :)Donya Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00229964689354498931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734404180567424295.post-56718620183697046472012-10-21T10:23:07.950-07:002012-10-21T10:23:07.950-07:00I think this is the best post of the three. You...I think this is the best post of the three. You've put out there exactly how many of us feel. As an author, I want the constructive criticism to make me a better writer. Sure the pats on the back feel great, but to have someone who doesn't know me personally tell me they like my work would be even better. That will only happen if a tough editor gets her hands on it.

Tammy Dennings Maggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17551291117492287824noreply@blogger.com
